We’re throwing it wayyyy back this week! My first post ever on RecipeBoy was “How to Make a Shirley Temple,” so it only makes sense to take this a step further by making it adult-friendly — 11 and 1/2 years later, here’s the Dirty Shirley Temple Cocktail.
This recipe brings me back to the good ol’ days growing up in San Diego, California. I remember when I made the original as a child and began to learn the ropes of the food blogging business from my mom. Look how far we’ve come since then!
Ingredients needed:
- maraschino cherries
- lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7-Up)
- grenadine
- vodka
- ice
How to make a Dirty Shirley Cocktail:
The complete, printable recipe is at the end of this post.
Begin by filling two glasses with ice and pouring a shot of vodka in each.
Next, fill the glass nearly to the top with lemon-lime soda. I used Sprite, but 7-UP or generic brands are perfectly acceptable. If you want to stay low-cal, opt for Sprite Zero or a reduced-sugar variant.
Add a splash of grenadine and stir, then garnish with maraschino cherries. A little grenadine tends to go a long way, so I don’t recommend a heavy pour.
The maraschino cherries are essential. They’re the perfect garnish to complement the grenadine in the drink. I used a little cocktail pick to hold them together, which helps prevent the cherries from sinking to the bottom.
As far as drinks go, it doesn’t get much more simple than this. The Dirty Shirley Temple Cocktail is a delicious, refreshing beverage that is sure to bring you right back to your childhood. Enjoy!
