Tequila Shirley Temple
If you’re an adult who enjoys a cocktail, and you were always a fan of the classic Shirley Temple when you were a kid, then you’ll probably enjoy this adult beverage too. I shared a recipe for a Dirty Shirley Temple made with vodka a while back, but this version is made with tequila!
🛒 Ingredients Needed:
- ice cubes
- lime juice
- grenadine
- silver tequila
- ginger beer
- cocktail cherries
✏️ How to make a Tequila Shirley Temple:
*The complete, printable recipe is in the recipe card at the end of this post.
In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine the lime juice, grenadine and tequila. Cover and shake until very cold. Strain into an ice-filled cocktail glass. Top with ginger beer and a skewer of cherries.
➡️ Tips and Substitutions:
- If you don’t care for tequila, substitute your favorite booze. Try rum, gin or vodka instead!
- We like to use the Luxardo brand cherries, but you can certainly use any cocktail cherries that you’d like.
- Leave out the tequila, and you’ll have a little bit of a twist on the classic Shirley Temple beverage.
Background on the classic Shirley Temple:
A Shirley Temple is a non-alcoholic mixed drink. It is sometimes served to children who are dining with adults. People do not know if this drink was actually served to the child actress Shirley Temple or if it was just named after her. We might not know the whole story, but we do know that Shirley Temples are a kid-favorite!
❤️ What I Love About This Recipe:
- I love a twist on a classic!
- My dad always ordered Shirley Temples for me when I was little. So this adult version brings back some fond memories. Dad would have loved it!
- The Luxardo cherries are a delicious treat to nibble after drinking your cocktail!
